Default How do I disable hibernation and pagefile in Windows 7? - 05-25-2009, 11:40 PM

I've got a 8gb ssd and I'm trying to slim down my vlited installation. I did a search and couldn't find any instructions.

Also, I'll probably compress my drive... any other hints on slimming down Win7?

Hibernate:
In the elevated command prompt, type powercfg -h off and press Enter.
Here's more info:

Caution! Sevenforums.com is addicting if you do any work with Windows 7.

As for pagefile, here's a quote from MS blog Engineering Windows 7:
Should the pagefile be placed on SSDs?

Yes. Most pagefile operations are small random reads or larger sequential writes, both of which are types of operations that SSDs handle well.

In looking at telemetry data from thousands of traces and focusing on pagefile reads and writes, we find that

Pagefile.sys reads outnumber pagefile.sys writes by about 40 to 1,
Pagefile.sys read sizes are typically quite small, with 67% less than or equal to 4 KB, and 88% less than 16 KB.
Pagefile.sys writes are relatively large, with 62% greater than or equal to 128 KB and 45% being exactly 1 MB in size.
In fact, given typical pagefile reference patterns and the favorable performance characteristics SSDs have on those patterns, there are few files better than the pagefile to place on an SSD.

If you must...Control Panel>System>Advanced System Settings>Performance>Settings>Advanced>Virtual Memory>Change

No page file can be dangerous in the event of a crash because memory dumps cannot occur.

Wow. Thanks so much for the quick response!

This link is a good place to start: http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/wind...ed-tweaks.html

FWIW, I set my page file to 200/200MB.
