Default question with chamelion - 06-01-2009, 06:32 PM

Hello,
I just installed 10.5.7 on my mini 9, and upon reboot just got a white screen. I booted into safe mode, installed the latest dellEfi, and that resolved the issue. But, it caused another. My mini 9 also has XP set to dual boot, which was working fine, but now the new boot loader will not boot XP. It shows all three partitions (EFI, MAC OX X, NO NAME (which has windows on it), but will not boot NO NAME (xp). Upon trying to boot XP it just says:

Loading Darwin
Can't find mach_kernel

Which tells me that its trying to boot the OS X kernel off of this drive?
I figured that i could throw in some boot options to tell it to boot the windows kernel, but can't find anything on the switches needed to do so! Any ideas?
Thanks!

That is the error message that I was getting while trying to boot my OSX partition. Grab the mach_kernel file off a mac drive or a boot disk and drop it in the root dir and see what happens...

gave it a shot- no luck. The dellEFI install i first used (when it was working) was an older version then the current (without the graphics and such) but i seem to have a hard time finding different versions. Is there a main site that hosts the dellefi installers?

Chameleon 2.0 doesn't like booting non OS X partitions. You should download DellEFI 1.1 and select to reinstall the boot loader and possibly the dsdt. The second link in my sig is where you can download all of the past versions of DellEFI.

Serious? I've had a lot more luck dual-booting with 1.2a5 than I ever did with 1.1 and below. I wonder why it's different for me.

Every time I've tried to boot a non os x install off of an external drive via chameleon, it always failed. If you are trying on the internal drive, it may be different. Could just be me as well, but it's never worked for me.

Personally, the gui is nice, but pc efi was less buggy for me. Actually, most things with the voodoo name seams to be buggy.
